Their enrolment packs have been returned marked ‘‘gone, no address’’ to Registrar of Electors Marie Elliott. In Tasman district 760 voters have been removed from the roll and in Nelson city 1159 voters. Nationally, about 70,000 local election enrolment packs have bounced back to registrars of electors. The Electoral Commission mailed update packs to 3.1 million voters on the electoral roll at the start of last month to check that everyone who is eligible is correctly enrolled to vote in the October 12 elections for councils and district health boards. Enrolment Services national manager Murray Wicks said: ‘‘If you are one of the 70,000 or so voters whose pack has come back to us because you’ve moved house and not updated your enrolment details, you have been removed from the electoral roll and won’t be able to vote unless you re- enrol’’. Those voters have until August 16 to re-enrol in time to receive their voting papers in the mail. Amy Steger was one of those voters. She received the pack at home and filled it out – but forgot to mail it. So when she came across Tara Forde enrolling voters in front of the museum last Friday, she filled out the form again. Tara is running to be a Tasman district councillor and said she was not campaigning but encour- aging people to vote, no matter who for. ❚ To re-enrol go online at elections.org.nz, freetext your name and address to 3676, call 0800 367 656 or go to any PostShop.
